Which side of brain is dominating us?

Cerebral Lobes

The cerebral hemispheres are divided by a deep cleft termed the longitudinal fissure and separated from the underlying cerebellum by the transverse fissure. Two prominent sulci on the cerebral convexity, the lateral sulcus and the central sulcus, help to divide the hemispheres into frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal lobes. Slicing the cerebrum reveals a number of grey matter structures including the corpus striatum, amygdala and thalamus. hese subcortical structures are closely related to a collection of fluid-filled cavities and channels inside the brain, called the ventricular system.

Cerebral Lobes

Parietal Lobe- processes info from senses especially from skin , muscle, joints.

Frontal Lobe – Vital to thoughts, personality, speech and emotion.

Temporal Lobe – Mostly concerned with recognition of sounds.

Occipital Lobe – receives nerves signals from the eyes and interprets visual information.

The Cerebrum is divided into two Halves, connected by bridge of nerves.

For some function each half is wired to the opposite side of the body, but other skills and though processes are controlled by only one half of the brain.

Left brain skills –

The left side of brain is responsible for more logical and rational aspects of your thinking as well as verbal skills. Your ability to express yourself (language) is usually controlled by the frontal lobe of left hemisphere.

Right brain skills –

The right side of your brain seems to focus more on creative and emotional, intuitive responses. It is also important for spatial awareness.

Spatial skills – Your ability to visualise and work with the three dimensional space is strongly linked to the right side of the brain. Visual art is related to spatial skills and right side is more active when you are drawing, painting.

Imagination – Your creative imagination is mostly directed by right cerebral hemisphere although expressing the imagination is left brain skills.

So, Which side of brain is dominating us?

The right side of body is controlled by left cerebral hemisphere and right side of body is controlled by left cerebral hemisphere. This means those who prefer using right side of body are mostly logical and analytical kind of people and left sided ones are imaginative and creative.

In Right handed people, Left cerebral brain and left handed people, right sided brain is dominant. Since most people are right handed, this suggests that left brain is usually dominant.

You have a dominant Foot and a preferred eye too.

Easiest way to find your best foot is through kick of soccer ball (The best kicks will determine your preferred foot).

Cereberal fissures

Numerous deep grooves in the cerebral cortex, called cerebral fissures, originate in the extensive folding of the brain’s surface. The main cerebral fissures are the lateral fissure, or fissure of Sylvius, between the frontal and temporal lobes; the central fissure, or fissure of Rolando, between the frontal and parietal lobes, which separates the chief motor and sensory regions of the brain; the calcarine fissure on the occipital lobe, which contains the visual cortex; the parieto-occipital fissure, which separates the parietal and occipital lobes; the transverse fissure, which divides the cerebrum from the cerebellum; and the longitudinal fissure, which divides the cerebrum into two hemisphere.
